Hi! I’m Lisa, and my passion in life has always been animals. They’ve shaped my life and career in ways I could never have imagined…..
After leaving school with GCSEs, I pursued my love for animals by earning a National Diploma in Animal Management in 2004. Two years later, I decided to study as an Animal Nursing Assistant, which led me to complete NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Veterinary Nursing.
I officially qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2008 and spent the next seven years working with the team at E.C. Straiton & Partners in Penkridge. Anyone in this industry knows how incredibly rewarding yet challenging the veterinary world can be. I gained invaluable experience and cherished memories, learning from talented colleagues. In 2010, my wonderful daughter was born – a life-changing event that made me re-evaluate my priorities.
In 2014, I left my role at the practice to focus on spending more quality time with her while pursuing new challenges. Determined to grow, I completed an Access to Higher Education course and, in 2015, began studying for a degree in teaching. After three years of hard work, I graduated in 2018 with a First-Class BEd (Hons) in Early Primary Education. I immediately began my teaching career as an early-years reception teacher. While teaching, I realised how many children face unique challenges – emotionally, physically, and mentally. Learning can be tough, and for some, school may not feel like the right fit.
During this time, we were fortunate to have a therapy dog visit the school. The positive impact this dog had on the children – and even the staff – was undeniable. This experience inspired me to combine my two greatest passions: animals and teaching, and so I embarked on the journey to become a therapy dog handler. First, I earned accreditation as a dog trainer with The Dog Training College. Around the same time, we welcomed Fergus, our adorable black Labrador puppy, into our family.
Fergus, with his gentle temperament and eagerness to learn, was the perfect partner. Together, we completed therapy dog training and I am proud to say I am now a certified trainer with PAWS Therapy Dogs, while Fergus is a fully-fledged therapy dog!
Today, I offer high-quality Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAI), educational talks, workshops, and bespoke services tailored to individual needs. My work spans various settings, including schools, colleges, care homes, private homes, and community spaces, supporting people of all ages.
In addition to AAI, I also provide a range of services for your beloved furry friends. Whether it’s care, training, or companionship, I am here to help. I’m passionate about creating meaningful connections, improving lives, and sharing the joy that animals bring.
